![]() Welcome to Boy Scout Troop 45's Home Page (The Best of the Best) ![]() Summer Camp ![]() 2000 ![]() This year we also had one older scout (Andy) attend summer camp in Oregon. The Oregon Trail Council's Camp Alton F. Baker is situated on a peninsula that juts out into Tsilicoos Lake south of Florence, Oregon. The camp is also a mile from the sand dunes, where the scouts go for fun on day hikes to sllide down the massively tall sand dunes. At Camp Baker there was a massive high adventure program where scouts tested their abilities. Some programs / merit badges there were climbing, all the boating, hiking and other special awards. The merit badges are split to 6 classes a day and offer a huge selection. Everyday after lunch they had campwide games for medals. The games allways involved using team work. Near the last day of camp everyone walks a mile to the sand dunes. The competitions are a free style contest, Iron man race, and a marathon. Andy says, "I did all 3, the free style you were being judged on how you went down a dune. The iron man was a long race where you had to pass a stick to a team mate when you ran to a certain distance. The marathon was a long race (about 5 miles) where everyone runs to win, there were no teams". He also added, "It is a great summer camp but it is far away in Oregon. I had fun and earned 4 merit badges. I recommend it to any scout willing to travel the distance". ![]()
